A Bouquet or 2!!! LOVE…
In 1930 when the New York City newspapers heard a rumor that my great grandfather Henry Collins Brown (see above) had died, they wrote articles about his life and death. In his memoirs about his mental health journey he wrote about his thoughts after hearing these rumors in the chapter titled “OUR SUICIDE CLUB”:
“ I experienced the blissful sensation of being an object of interest to the outside
world. One or two obituaries were canceled just in time, so I did
not enjoy reading what a perfectly worthy citizen I really was, and
that was a great disappointment. I thought it was quite nice to
have the papers interested to this extent, and I have often wondered
what these obituaries contained. No doubt, they would have
been written in a kindly spirit, as we generally receive a bouquet or
two when they are no longer of use to us.”
